Strength-based Talent-Matching model for First-time-job-seekers, Employers and Youth Development Supporters
Facilitating Self-Discovery and Talent Management with the VASK Model
The VASK model was derived from Expanded Notion of Work (ENOW) that aimed at broadening the definition of work and emphasizing the equal importance of paid and unpaid work. JC PROcruit C carried out talent-matching based on VASK (Values, Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge). This approach could further be adopted in different sectors and for different people, be it first-time-job-seekers, employers, or youth development supporters, in job-seeking and self-discovery, recruitment and talent management.
By bringing in forward-looking employers, the programme has successfully offered close to 1,000 traineeship opportunities for first-time-job-seekers on 16 future-oriented job roles to join the people-centric and caring profession in four emerging sectors to create social good for the community.
What’re the benefits for me if I adopt VASK?

If you are a first-time-job-seeker or a to-be graduate…
- Broaden the definition of “work” and help extend your vision of personal development and make informed choice in career and life development.
- Develop better self-understanding through review of experiences gained within and outside of school, recognise your own strengths and values, and regain a sense of control in your own development.
- Establish a positive self-identity, strengthening confidence.

If you are an employer…
- Understand and identify candidates’ strengths and talents from a more comprehensive perspective for effective talent matching. In turn, this can encourage employees’ development and promote their commitment and productivity in the workplace.
- Help you emphasise on your candidates’ VASK in the recruitment process to establish a positive corporate image by emphasising on strength-based matching rather than just qualifications.
- Use the new recruitment perspective to carve out potential talents in the market and expand the talent pool to support business development.

If you are a youth development supporter (e.g. teachers, social workers, career counsellors, parents, etc.)…
- Open a dialogue with young people about career and life development and motivate them to take action in career and life planning.
- Provide a simple career planning tool that can tie in with career counselling to help young people organise their life journey and identify their gained abilities. This can inspire them to explore different pathways and apply your unique VASK to life and work.
- Broaden the counselling intervention in career and life planning, inspiring young people to develop a more holistic framework for their career, learning, and leisure development.
- Have you analyzed the VASK (Values, Attitudes, Skills, Knowledge) requirements of the profession specified in the job description before applying?
- How does your personal VASK align with the VASK of the profession or job description you're applying to?
- Can you provide examples of how your VASK matches the professions VASK as per the job description?
